Never a dull moment
Nov. 3rd, 2008 08:21 amYesterday, as I was chillaxing around the house, I decided some delicious soup would fit the bill. I cracked open a can of Campbell's Chunky Stroganoff Style, which I had purchased at my local grocery store for the first time. I tipped it into a large bowl and stuck it in the microwave for the recommended three minutes. What I neglected to do was allow it to sit in the microwave for the recommended one minute after cooking. I pulled it out of the microwave and took it into the living room to eat in front of the TV. I actually set it aside for a few minutes, which was probably a blessing. When I finally decided I was ready to eat, I picked the bowl up and stuck my spoon in, and all hell broke loose! The soup exploded out of the bowl and splattered all over me. Smog was here and quickly grabbed a towel for me to get the scalding hot soup off of me, but I still wound up with burns on my right arm. I have two small second degree burns that have blistered up nicely and two small first degree burns. From soup! The largest second degree burn blister is on my inner wrist and is about the size of a penny, and the smaller one is on the back of my arm and is about twice the size of a pencil eraser. Thank goodness I didn't put that soup straight into my mouth! I get myself cleaned up and ran cool water over my burns and let my soup cool. It was still pretty good, for canned stroganoff. Even though I know the worst thing to do for burns is pop the blister, it is still incredibly tempting. I have them covered so I hopefully will resist the temptation. Hope they are mostly healed up by this weekend!
Last night, around 11pm, I was settling down to rest and aim for sleep when I heard a commotion outside...the unmistakable sound of a collision. I jumped up and dashed out of the front door only to see taillights headed down the street to the North. I walked out toward the road and saw my mailbox (which is on the West side of the street) was lying on the ground off of its pole, the pole leaning toward the North, and ruts through the ditch where someone had obviously swerved across the road, hit my mailbox, and gone into and out of the ditch. There was also a very large (7 ft long) piece of their car lying across the ditch...part of the plastics from the underside of the side panel. It is now in my living room, as I decided that if they didn't have the balls to come apologize for hitting my mailbox, they didn't get their car piece back. I heard someone come back down the street later, slowly, as if they might be looking for the piece they left behind. I laughed. It will cost them more to replace the piece of car than it will for me to fix my mailbox. Serves them right.
