Rainy Season
Nov. 20th, 2008 09:15 amA simple embrace on a rainy plaza.
Just the two of them, wrapped in each other, oblivious to the water squelching into his sneakers and soaking her striped bag to near translucency. Her arms entangled around his head, his circling her waist, they looked for all the world like any other romantic tourist couple caught in a sudden downpour and making the most of it. Perhaps they were honeymooners. Perhaps they were college sweethearts on a final spring break before breaking into the real world of bills and taxes.
It would have been easy enough to assume any of those things, until she stepped away from him and allowed his bloodless corpse to tumble to the cement, his fingers trailing into the pooling water near the drain. She looked down at him with the regard one might give a gum wrapper and strolled off into the drizzle, pausing under an awning to reapply her lipstick.
How she loved the rainy season!
