Sometimes, to process things, I need to write them here. However, because of the graphic nature, it goes

Apparently, Courtney was driving at a very high rate of speed. 80-90 mph is estimated. And apparently both girls were texting people at the time, because someone claims to have been texting with her and then just didn't receive any more texts. They know that Courtney had her seatbelt on. They can't tell about Ashley. They think both girls died on impact. There is little left to bury, as the bodies remained in the burning car for over two hours before they could be recovered. There is little left to bury. The identification had to be done from dental records. The car is apparently a mangled burnt shell.

Dear God, I hope they both died immediately. I hope they never knew what had happened.

Parents & teachers, please, for my sake, for your sake, use this story to talk to your teens about driving at a high rate of speed and the dangers of texting while driving. These were not bad or troubled kids. They were popular kids who made really bad decisions, and now they are gone and we suffer.

I'm going to have a glass of wine and a hot bath and an early bed, I think. I'm too broken right now for much else.

The likelihood is very, very high that they died before they even knew what had happened. It is an extraordinarily tiny blessing in a horrific situation, and I'm sorry you and your community have to go through this. I know what it did to me and mine, and I wish there was a way to make it just never happen again. <3

I saw these while I was at Barb's earlier but didn't want to hijack her LJ account. I am so, so sorry. I . . . oh my god, their families, and so close to Christmas. This is just heartbreaking. Heartbreaking.

I will keep them in my thoughts, and their families and friends, and you. I am sorry, babe.

Yes, they were driving too damned fast. Yes they weren't paying enough attention to what they were doing. Didn't we all do similarly stupid things when we were all teenagers? Don't we all have times we look back on and say "I could have died, right there."?

The problem with teenagers is they never think it can happen to them. The only good thing about a tragedy like this is at least their friends and classmates will know for a fact that it can, and they will be a little more careful with themselves, and someone else who might have died, won't.

I am so sorry. Nobody deserves that.

I am so sorry to hear about this. Having teenage boys myself it really hits home. I am so sorry for your loss and the loss to those who loved them.

I was lucky. It was wet, and I spun, and slid along the guard rail, backwards.

[livejournal.com profile] sewfastdancer can tell you all about losing friends because of bad decisions made while driving. Two of them in one accident (dance teammates, late night, unfamiliar road, speed, no seatbelts), another one dead plus a second one in that car with permanent brain injuries (speed, no seatbelts).

And I can tell you that being the parent who had to confirm the story about the deaths of her teammates was one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life. I will remember that day with sadness forever.

What an incredibly horrible and sad thing to happen.

I am so sorry, for the community's, family's, and future's loss.
I have faith that you will be able to hold it together and be the Grown Up for those poor teens that have to deal with the sudden holes in their lives. They are blessed to have a compassionate, loving, and sympathetic Bob in their lives at this time of grief.

(warm hugs)
